The report, published at a time when these technologies are becoming deeply integrated into core business operations, highlights the transition from “chatting with machines” to “machines acting on your behalf,” opening the door to unprecedented security vulnerabilities.
Microsoft explains that the danger lies in the very nature of AI agents. Unlike traditional language models that wait for user input, an “agent” can access emails, calendars, and databases, and perform complex tasks such as booking flights or sending financial reports without direct human intervention. This “autonomy” is precisely what makes it an attractive target for attackers.
1. Indirect Prompt Injection Attacks
